Dr Paul Hession

Dr Paul Hession is a Consultant Anaesthetist working in Perth at Fiona Stanley Fremantle Hospital Group and SJOG Midland Public and Private Hospitals. He completed his anaesthesia training in Ireland before moving to Australia, where he undertook advanced fellowship training in regional anaesthesia and perioperative medicine. Prior to moving, Paul undertook a special interest year in paediatric anaesthesia at Children’s Health Ireland.
Paul holds fellowships with both the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (FANZCA) and the College of Anaesthesiologists of Ireland (FCAI), along with a Masters in Perioperative Medicine from University College London and a Graduate Certificate in Medical Ultrasound from the University of Melbourne.
His clinical interests include perioperative optimisation, regional anaesthesia, and patient-centred care, with a focus on improving recovery and outcomes following surgery. He is actively involved in perioperative medicine services and quality improvement initiatives, including leadership roles within pre-admission and high-risk surgical patient pathways.
Before pursuing medicine full-time, Paul had a successful international athletics career, representing Ireland at two Olympic Games and competing at multiple World and European Championships.
